[3-4w/11] The Global Command Bar

With the desktop app, you can now bring up the OFFLIGHT Command Bar and create tasks from any screen—no need to open the app! On mobile, we’ve made task editing smoother by reducing unnecessary screen transitions. Let’s dive into all the updates we’ve made for you this week! 😊

⭐ This Week's Highlights

Global Command Bar (Desktop Only) ⌨️

The Global Command Bar, one of the most requested features, is finally here! Now, you can create tasks directly in OFFLIGHT, even when the app isn’t open.

  • Powerful Task Creation: Add a due date, set durations, and connect to your lists—all in one place.(Check out the full guide here)

  • Default Shortcut: Cmd (Ctrl) + Shift + Space is ready to go, but you can customize it under Settings > Shortcut.

  • Desktop App Exclusive: (Download Desktop app ➕)

Mobile - Smoother Task Editing and Viewing

We’ve made mobile task editing much easier. Now, when you edit a task, it pops up as a bottom sheet instead of taking over the whole screen.

Plus, if you close the editor without saving, you’ll now see a popup asking whether you want to save or discard your changes. No more accidental edits disappearing!

Desktop Version 1.0.6 Updates

New Shortcuts

  • CMD + W: Close the app easily with this new shortcut.

  • CMD + SHIFT + O: Open OFFLIGHT instantly with this shortcut.(You can customize both shortcuts under Settings > Shortcuts.)

Automatic Updates

We heard you! Previously, updating OFFLIGHT’s desktop app meant downloading the latest version manually from our website. But now, the app automatically updates itself, so you’ll always have the latest features and fixes without any hassle.

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where logging in or opening a new window on the desktop app caused an error.

  • Fixed a problem with CMD/CTRL + R not refreshing the app.

  • Resolved a bug where marking recurring tasks as done didn’t work in the organizing page.

  • Fixed an issue where task states were incorrect after deleting connected events.

🎒 Behind the Scenes

We’ve been chatting with many of you recently, learning how you use OFFLIGHT. Some of you carefully plan and adjust time blocks throughout the day, while others focus on reordering overdue tasks without setting time blocks at all.

Both approaches make sense because, in the real world, plans often change—new meetings pop up, unexpected tasks come in, and some tasks take longer than expected. That’s why we’re working on Dynamic Planning—a system designed to embrace and adapt to these realities.

We can’t wait to share more about this exciting direction through a video soon. Stay tuned!

[1-2w/11] (Global) command bar, Recurring Task Rebuild

It’s been 3 weeks since our last update! We usually aim to deliver smaller, frequent updates so you can experience improvements faster, but this time, we packed so much into this update that one week just wasn’t enough. It took us a bit longer, but we’re excited to walk you through all the changes we’ve made.

⭐ This Week's Highlights

(Global) Command Bar ⌨️

One of the most crucial aspects of any productivity tool is ‘accessibility’. You should be able to create tasks quickly, anytime and anywhere. While it’s not fully ‘global’ yet, we’ve launched an in-app command bar for OFFLIGHT.

  • Press CMD (CTRL) + K to open the command bar and create tasks easily.

  • Use # when creating a task to select or create a list.

  • You can enter dates/times directly to schedule tasks or create time blocks instantly.

⛳ What’s next?

We’re working on improving stability first, and then we’ll introduce a true ‘global command bar’ that works anywhere on your desktop. (*Desktop app exclusive feature)

📚 Check out the Guide document to learn how to use the command bar.

Recurring Task Rebuild 🔁

We’ve had quite a few bugs related to recurring tasks and recurring time blocks in the calendar. These issues were frustrating for users who rely on flexible routines and systems in OFFLIGHT, and it even led to some users leaving. So, we’ve completely rebuilt the logic for creating and editing recurring tasks to enhance stability.

Additionally, if you change a recurring time block on the same day, it will now only update that specific event by default, without asking for confirmation.

Major Mobile Update 📱

Haven’t downloaded the OFFLIGHT mobile app yet? Or did you take a break from using it? Now’s the perfect time to try it again because we’ve made significant improvements to the UI/UX over the past 3 weeks.

  • Improved Task Readability: We redesigned the task list to make it more readable. We adjusted the font, list design, checkboxes, and spacing between tasks for a cleaner look.

  • New Default Screen: When you reopen the app after 30 minutes of inactivity, it now shows the Today page with your task list instead of the Inbox page.

  • Enhanced Task Shortcuts: Clicking on linked tasks now opens the source app (Slack, Notion, Linear, etc.) directly, or in your preferred browser.

  • Data Sync Improvements: Your data now syncs automatically every time you open or switch screens.

  • Markdown View for Task Notes: You can now view notes in Markdown format on mobile. However, Markdown is only supported in view mode; when editing, you’ll still use plain text.

Performance & Stability Improvements

  • Performance: We’ve partially fixed the issue where the app slows down when using the 7-day view in the calendar. We’re still working on improving the drag-and-drop performance for tasks and events.

  • Stability: We resolved an issue where task updates (editing, deleting, or completing) were not reflected and reverted back to their previous state.

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where past tasks planned for Today would disappear from the Today list.

  • Resolved a bug where tasks scheduled for future dates didn’t appear immediately.

  • Fixed a problem where tasks set as Top Priority in the Unplanned view would disappear temporarily, then reappear in the Today list.

  • Addressed an issue where the Focusing feature didn’t work when there were no tasks planned for Today.

  • Updated text from "Move to Unplanned" to "Move to Inbox" for better clarity, as the left lane is now labeled Inbox.

  • Improved the experience so you don’t need to log in again if you’re already logged in on another tab.

  • Fixed an issue where the loading screen remained if there were no linked calendars.

  • Properly reset data when the session expired and you were logged out.

🎒 Behind the Scenes

  • Since July, we’ve been conducting interviews with many of you to understand what kind of product OFFLIGHT should become. The vision is becoming clearer now. So far, we’ve focused on building a strong foundation with stability and speed, but moving forward, we’ll introduce features that will offer an experience 10x better than today. We’re talking about a major overhaul that we might even call OFFLIGHT 2.0. It’s going to take some time, but we’ll keep sharing our progress and sneak peeks along the way.

  • Balancing speed and stability in software is like building a car – pushing for more speed can sometimes compromise stability, and improving stability can slow things down. We’re learning how to catch both rabbits, and it’s definitely not easy!

[2-3w/10] Custom Views on the Planning Page

After two weeks of development, we’ve finally released custom views for the planning page! Now, you can create custom views that match your workflow and preferences. Plus, we’ve added some cool new features on mobile, like the Task Toolbar and Custom Date Planning. Let’s dive into this week’s updates.

⭐ This Week's Highlights

Custom Views on the Planning Page

You can now open and close the Inbox lane, Planned lane, and Calendar, giving you full control over your view. Here are some benefits OFFLIGHT makers, who are also users, experienced:

  • After planning the day, we could hide the Inbox to avoid distractions.

  • It’s great to have a full view of the calendar, so we no longer need to switch to Google Calendar to plan.

  • When we just wanted to focus on today’s tasks, keeping only the Today section open really helped with concentration.

As mentioned in a previous email, we’ve made the lanes collapsible with an accordion-style feature, so you can easily expand or collapse them with your mouse. And after lots of thought, we implemented keyboard shortcuts to be easy to learn, accessible, and ergonomic.

  • SHIFT + A: Toggle Inbox lane

  • SHIFT + S: Toggle Planned lane

  • SHIFT + D: Toggle Calendar lane

Mobile - Task Toolbar and Custom Date Planning

Task Toolbar

With the Task Toolbar, you can now set deadlines, planning dates, and lists when creating a task. Just use the toolbar that appears above the keyboard to create tasks quickly and easily.

Custom Date Planning

We’ve added a Custom Date option to the planning feature so you can schedule tasks for specific dates. Swipe left on a task and tap "Plan," or go to the task details page and tap "Plan" to find the "Custom date" option.

💎 Hidden Gems

Roadmap

We’ve added a Roadmap button to the left menu. Here, you can see what features we’re working on and plan to build next. You can also check out feature requests from other users and vote for the ones you like. Be sure to cast your votes!

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where event creation in time blocks was occasionally slow.

  • Fixed an issue where the 'T' shortcut didn’t work after clicking the date change button.

🚀 Upcoming

❗Advance Notice of Server Maintenance❗

We’ll be doing some server maintenance on Sunday, November 3rd, for about 3 hours. This maintenance is to address recurring issues with recurring tasks. During this time, the service will be unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience and will send a reminder as the date approaches.

🎒 Behind the Scenes

  • We received a lot of feedback from you about last week’s newsletter where we shared our internal thoughts about the facelift. Many of you said you appreciated this kind of communication, and we heard you! We’ll continue sharing more about our process, not just the results. Thanks so much for your great feedback. 😊
